THE BUILDING OF THE FLYING SLUG

Our Carnival entry in 2000

The first temporary lash together and testing of the framework.  We quickly realised that it would not go through the door of this classroom so the proper build was done downstairs in a disused entrance hall

which has double exit doors

Here it is assembled and covered with dark grey polyester sacking material enhanced with painted roundels and strips of dull green polytarp to give a camouflage effect.  The rear roundels on each side were designed as coin collecting targets.  This view gave reminded us of a slug ~ a carnivorous one as the second picture shows.

Now to get it from our HQ to the Green which was the assembly point

Put on the essentials like wings !

Pose with the Prize certificate & cup ~ not to mention the £20 cheque.

Sorry, that was safely in my wallet !

As the light faded, the Flying Slug made its way back to the assembly point.  Crowd reaction had been good and it got a mention on local BBC radio.  Once again we had collected a lot of money for the Carnival charity fund.  What ideas for next year ????
