Our final total collected was £500. This money will be given back to us at the Lions Presentation evening on 8 June. Thank you to all who helped raise this money which is certainly the best result since 1988.

SUMMER CAMPS

Consent letters have been issued to all cadets who want to attend camp at RAF Honington (3-10 July).

A list is on the notice board for those wishing to attend camp at RAF St Mawgan (14-21 August or 21-28 August) Girls have priority as they were excluded from attending RAF Honington camp for accommodation reasons.

ADVENTURE TRAINING

Five places are available for a weekend in the Peak District which is being organised by Marlborough Squadron (evening 16 July - evening 18 July). Total cost is just £5.00

ANNUAL INSPECTION

It was a pleasure to see so many parents at the annual inspection on 27 May. The inspecting officers were very impressed with what they saw and we finished as first reserve for the North sector in the Wing Efficiency Competition.

Thank you to the Civilian Committee, particularly Marion Owers, for the refreshments.

Wansdyke Primary School Fete 26 June

Cadet and staff volunteers are needed to help construct the confidence course and to guide youngsters around it.

SQUADRON PATCH

The production version of the squadron patch is now on sale at an introductory price of £4.00. This will rise to £5.00 soon.

The patch may be worn on civilian attire such as polo shirts, jumpers, fleecies but may not be attached to issue blue uniform. It may be sewn onto the top of the right arm of a DPM jacket.

Embroidered polo shirts can be ordered via the squadron.

It is hoped to acquire a stock of shirts with the patch for issue as needed to squadron representatives at sporting and other events. The squadron Sergeants have been tasked to suggest the shirt colour.

NCOs

Corporals Kelly Hurkett & Ben Owers were promoted to Acting Sergeant during the inspection parade.

A new round of potential NCO assessments is starting this month. The purpose is to ensure that all those aspiring to become NCOs are equally judged against set criteria. There are 3 Corporal vacancies.

Sports

Flying Officer Gary Lewry is in charge of our sporting activities. He has submitted this report on our achievements.

"9 cadets went to the Wing Athletics at Salisbury on 9 May. Everyone did extremely well and the lads in Class B came second in their age group. We might have won this group if we had managed to field a full team. Those 2 cadets who didn't show up know who they are! Hopefully we will have some people selected to represent the Wing at Yeovil in a few weeks time. A big Thank You to those who put in the effort. Well done. "

Wing Blues were awarded in 1998/9 to:

Cpl David Young Soccer

Cdt Ben Stockley Rugby

Cpl (now Sgt) Ben Owers Soccer

Cdt Naomi MacMeekin Hockey

An executive decision ~ we will construct a human fruit machine as this year's float in the carnival procession. Only 12 weeks or so to go so we must get started soon.
