FUND RAISING
The Civilian Committee will be
running a Car Boot Sale stand on Sunday 24 September. Bring those saleable unwanted bits and pieces in as soon as
possible ~ we have plenty of storage space.
Our participation in the Seend
Fete on Saturday 12 August went well and the good turnout by staff and cadets
is much appreciated.
There will be a second Lions
Sponsored Walk this year as part of the move away from February/ March
dates. We raised over £500 earlier in
the year so let’s see if we can do it again.
Remember all money raised by us comes back to the squadron.
COMMITTEE
The constitution of the Air Training Corps requires that
we have a management committee comprising Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and
members.
The squadron has been blessed with an active committee for
many years now but there is always room for fresh faces. The committee is responsible for all the
finances of the squadron and is encouraged to give guidance to the squadron
staff regarding social and welfare matters.
Committee meetings are normally held at approximately 6
week intervals so the demands on members’ time are not onerous.
The Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 21
September and invitation letters are being sent to all parents.
Parents, please come along for an update on the squadron and committee
activities and consider giving committee work a try.
Mrs Martin our Chair would like to stand down due to other
commitments. She, and her husband Peter before her have supported the squadron
magnificently in the Chair role and I would like to express my thanks to them
for helping to make my time as Commanding Officer that much easier.
CARNIVAL
We
decided to enter the carnival procession on Saturday 2 September with a
variation on the Chinese Dragon concept ~ somewhat resembling an aircraft. The
story of its construction and views of previous entries will feature in a new
Carnival page soon to be added to our website.
Hey !!! We won First Prize in our Class !!!!
Thanks go to The Stationery Cupboard, Market Place,
Devizes for help with materials and for
photocopying leaflets. Also to Roses the Ironmongers, The Green,
Devizes for transporting the aircraft to the procession start point.
GUATEMALA EXPEDITION
I’m glad to report that our two
intrepid Warrant Officers have returned safely from Guatemala. By all accounts they had a great time and
devoted more time to community work than had been planned.
WEBSITE
The squadron website has been
revamped to make navigation around the pages a lot easier and we have received
some glowing comments from visitors to the site. It is updated regularly and includes all the newsletters that have
been issued ~ sometimes in advance of the printed copies.
Do have a look. I am thinking of adding a page giving the
outline programme so that you can check on dates and the kit needed. Really useful if you have mislaid the
monthly printed slip.
